memtest86 question

i haven`t used memtest before and just wondered if anyone could tell me how long i should leave this running?

Overnight usually, longest I've left it once was 10 hours.

As long as you like - 300% (i.e. 3 complete passes is usually enough to pickup 99% of errors)

does it actually stop when it finished or does it keep going round on a loop?

When I was testing my ballistix I rang crucial and told them I ran memtest for 9hrs and the guy on the phone said there was no need for a ran that long. If there were any errors on the ram then it should have picked them up on the first complete ran (aprox 15 mins to 30 mins)

I'd say a good 4hrs minimum to be completely sure you are error free. Try with all sticks in and see if any errors come up, if so then try indiviually in each slot to rule out bad ram sticks and possible faulty ram sockets on the mobo.

I usually run it for about 8 hours if I can be bothered but everyone is different. The longer the better, but if it doesn't return any errors within the first hour the RAM is pretty stable..
