Hi Guys,

I have been getting some BSODs since building my new system. These include:

MEMORY MANAGEMENT
PFN LIST CORRUPT
BAD POOL HEADER
PAGE FAULT IN NON PAGED AREA

I ran a Windows Memory Diagnostic and it said there was a Hardware Fault Detected. I left memtest86 running overnight and it completed 13 passes with 0 errors.

My system:
Mobo - MSI Z77A G45
CPU - Intel i5 3570K
GPU - AMD Radeon HD 6870
RAM - Geil Evo Leggera 4Gb x2 dual channel kit
PSU - Delta GPS 750AB A (750Watts)
HDD - Seagate Barracude 7200 (1Tb)

Is this likely to be a problem with my RAM or should I be looking at things like my HDD or PSU?

Thanks in advance.

I haven't but I did try Intel Burntest which came out fine, will this have achieved the same result or do you still recommend prime95?

pretty sure IBT uses 1gig out of the box unless you tell it to use more, get the free + cached ram from task manager and set that, then try again.

I will try this. I set it to 6000 when I did it.

What version of the BIOS is your G45 on - latest is v29 and 7 out of the 8 BIOS updates since launch list "Updated Memory compatibility" in the release notes

I feel stupid, the BIOS hasn't been updated at all yet, still out of the box version... I believe the UEFI with this mobo has an auto update feature in there somewhere that can search for updates. Will read the manual to confirm when I get home from work. Good point.

Have also thought of running HD Tune to check HDD. The things you forget to do when it's 1am (with work in the morning) and you're troubleshooting...

Don't feel stupid - I don't even look for BIOS updates unless something is specifically wrong. I would have hoped in this day and age Motherboard and Memory manufacturers could produce stuff that just works together (I mean it is a set spec... I thought things like SPD & XMP were supposed to solve all this), but alas doesn't look like it.

Thanks very much, this will be the first thing I do tonight I think. Would explain the reason I get no errors in memtest86 since the sticks might not be faulty. But I still wonder why Windows Memory Diagnostic would say hardware faults detected unless there is a problem with either RAM or HDD?

memtest86 operates at a much simpler level e.g. only just above the BIOS, whereas afaik Windows Memory Diagnostic runs under a limited version of Windows PE (i.e. an embedded cut-down version of windows suitable for e.g. recovery) - anything above the Bios is more layers for errors to potentially occur at (whether they are actually real or brought on by something else).

If you get errors during memtest86 then normally there is something at fault at the hardware level.

That would explain that then. Thanks, will take all your advice to the workbench tonight!

Good luck :)

After updating the BIOS - If you haven't installed much already, may be worth doing a clean re-install of Windows, as if there have been RAM related errors no telling what corruption might possibly have been caused .

I was also thinking this. Was actually considering doing a Windows 8 Install this time since I'm fed up with the 100+ updates on Windows 7. So I'll probably be doing a clean install of Windows 8 after the BIOS updates :).

While in my BIOS before doing my update I noticed that the memory speed for my RAM is set as 1333 automatically but the box says they are 1600 sticks. Would this cause any of the issues I have been experiencing?

Unlikely to cause any issue - especially if memtest is finding any faults, leave it at auto and get the bios updated first - you can play around and set the timings e.g. 1600mhz and CAS settings later.

Can't seem to boot from either of my 2 usbs. Keep getting the "Remove disk or other media. Press any key to restart" message when booting from it. Will keep trying but if you know what the problem could be then please say.

When trying to update BIOS using MFlash I get the following message:

"The SETUP Data Map is different between system BIOS and boot BIOS. If select to boot, the system would be fail to reboot!!!"

Have you tried flashing bios version 27? you might have to do incremental updates???
