On my trip out today I popped into a shoe shop and what took my eye was lace up shoes with a zip on side - I had a look and thought this would do me because at moment I buy shoes with velcro flap due to my fingers refusing to tie up laces.
Has anyone got a pair and if so what do you think - The ones I looked at was Rieker - The other maker I like is Joseph Seibel.

Thanks

Been looking for a nice pair of boots with a zip up the side , can't find anything that fits though, sketchers are nice to wear but find thier styling not so great.

It's hard to find a pair which last more than 6 months now. Sketchers wear out pretty quickly since they started making them in China. Fake gortex too so not great at this time of year :/

Hotter are made in the UK and last a long time, but expensive.

I have never had a shoe repaired, is it actually worth it? I buy new work shoes every autumn (~£100) as I tend to rack up a lot of miles, by which time both the sole and leather is pretty wrecked. I've got a couple of going out out shoes which are years old and look new because I don't often go out out these days :o those are apparently worth between £200-400 but my good friend is a buyer for a large fashion company so gets a massive discount.

Other than that it's just a pair of runners for walking the dog and 2 pairs of Gazelles for weekend loafing

Yes. Terry Pratchett was spot on. For 150ish you can get made in Northampton Loakes which are generally far comfier. 90 quid every 3 years sees them brand new. You need at least 2 pairs on rotation tho as they need a good chunk of time to dry out. I use cedar shoe trees.

You also need some dainite soles and some leather soles, for when it rains.
