Merge 2 itunes accounts?

When I bought my wife her iPhone I activated it against my itunes avccount to make life simpler. After a few months she wanted full control over it and created her own itunes account.
Since then all her purchases (apps only) have been under her account but her phone still has the apps purchased under my account (again apps only).

I wanted to upgrase her to IOS5 today as some of the iCloud stuff would be useful for her but it has flagged up the old apps and stated that they will not be backed up or restored during the upgrade.

Is there any way around this as she doesn't want to lose the apps or pay for them again? I was wondering if I should go into the Apple store and ask the staff if there is any way to move all the apps bought under my account to her account. My account is not used any more so can be nuked.

Any suggestions, or ideas if this is something that they'll be able to help with?

If I upgrade can I log in as my old account, redownload the apps, then log in as my wife and add her apps?
 
This is one thing I do hate about the way Apple manage accounts. I don't understand why it's hard to add one purchases from one account to another and delete one account.

They must do it for a reason, maybe they might get too many calls about it I don't know.
 
Tim Cook replied to someone not so long ago saying they're looking into account merging, I really hope they do!

I have my iTunes account and my @me account, now I use iCloud on my @me but still have to use my older iTunes account since I made many purchases on it and even that has iCloud setup too.

We'll have to just wait I'm afraid.
 
The weird thing is I don't no if I'm been daft but is it not the case of just adding the purchases from one account and deleting them from another.

I'm sure it would be just a script to run, and a GUI for a web page to be developed allowing accounts to be merged but I'm not so sure. Shouldn't be too hard for apple.

The cynic in me thinks they'd quite like it if you repurchased all the apps on your second account in this case...
