Merlin - better than heroes!

I watched the first episode of Merlin. I thought it was cheap, formulaic, trite, clichéd and amateurish. I was left feeling very unfulfilled.

I'm really enjoying Merlin so far. It can't compete with Hero's, but it ain't bad. For me it's much better than Dr. Who as it has better writing and better acting.

Well done BBC!

Everything pales compared to Lost season 1. Ive never bothered with Heroes and Merlin isnt that bad, its started to pick up a bit and my kids enjoy it aswell.

better than Heroes, no chance. Heroes blows most UK made programes out the window as it has better acting & larger budget for episodes, iirc it's $1million per episode for Heroes

I would imagine its more than that.

Doctor Who is £1 million per episode and that...sucks to be honest.

This is purely a guess, but I'd estimate the budget of Heroes to be aroundabout $70 million per season.

The only Uk show i've watched lately was Mutual Friends. It was pretty good but we just can't compare with US TV shows anymore. I only had to see the synopsis for Merlin to know it was going to be carp. :p

OMG! Lost is one of the best, most beautiful programs ever made - I love it and can't wait for the new Season!

Add to that Prison Break, Battlestar Galactica, The Tudors and Stargate Atlantis for your complete viewing pleasure :)

Merlin is an awful show, cant even tell ou what time its meant to be filmed in as they dont get the language right half of the time.

Also, to go off track alittle I never watched BSG but my bro lent me all of his and bloody well enjoyed this series with a nice big story ark, but can someone tell me if this was cancelled after the second half of season 4 (which is aired the start of next year), getting shakes as i just came to the end of the mid season break of season 4, alittle irked by the ending to say the least!

It's due out early next year.

They are also making a movie about an earlier portion of BSG history. I believe it revolves around Bill Adama, but a quick Wiki visit will tell you more.

bsg has another half a season left before its FINISHED.
Its not getting cancelled, the story comes to an end :)

Caprica is a spinoff that will eventually come out too.

Not when a spinoff series is taking its place?

My problem with half the shows on TV is that they dont have decent story progression, whereas BSG has a clear end goal, Lost etc just spout more **** out.
Prison Break has gotten a bit off the mark.....
Some people like stories that end, its nice to finish one story before you start another.

I said it in the previous Merlin thread and I'll say it again. This is an abomination of the original King Arthur Stories and TH White will be turning in his grave.

It wouldn't be so bad if the stories had some substance to them and were a bit darker. But this seems to be a live action Scooby Doo, with a Dragon in the place of the dog.

Look at all the good TV shows at the moment, Heroes & Lost being two prime examples. There is a continuously progressing story, the twists in the story are not spelled out in the first episode that they are introduced. The phase Story Arc clearly was not used by the writers once by the merlin writers. The baddies last more than an episode or two. They don't live happily ever after "Until next week". The characters do not have a goofy smile on even when **** is hitting the fan. I swear to god the bird that was dieing at the beginning of the last episode was smiling. Maybe the actress thought she was getting off for good behavior or something.

The budget seems to be being cut week on week. In my opinion they should scrap this all together because quite frankly the Disney Sword in the Stone film is by no small margin a superior piece of cinematography, which the BBC should have been using as a bench mark.

No I do want an ending, kind like how they managed to piece one together for Babaylon 5, whoch was the first proper series ending I can remember, just thought their would be abit more the the BSG story.

THo I see their is to be a 2 hr special after the ending then the spin off series.
