About £200 a piece, although bundles are obviously available if you've got deep pockets and multiple strobes to fire.

I'd really like wireless ETTL but surely a cheaper option for me would be to ditch the 50D and upgrade to a 7D with the built in wireless trigger ability?
Apart from range what advantage would I gain from the pocket wizards that I wouldn't have with the 7D built in?

If that's the case, you might as well stick an ST-E2 on the top of your 50D as that's all the 7D effectively has built-in.
The ability to trigger the flash at speeds higher than your camera's max sync along with the 'legendary' PW reliability.
Although when it comes to reliability there were various issues surrounding interference with the MiniTT1 and FlexTT5 when used with Canon 430EX/580EX/580EX II Speedlites, but I believe they were mainly impacting owners of the US-versions of the triggers as the European models operate on the 433 MHz band and don't suffer as much.
