Mesh WiFi with Outdoor AP

Hi

Looking at putting a mesh system in my new house. Internally it’s breeze block, built in 2004.

I also need an outdoor AP for my Astrophotography hobby. I need decent network speeds as I live upload my images and Remote Desktop to my compute stick outdoors. I’d prefer if this was on the same mesh WiFi network rather than a separate SSID.

I currently have a Unifi Outdoor 5ghz AP which I got for free, works fine but I’ve no experience of a full Ubiquiti mesh network. Does it use a single SSID?

Any help or advise would be welcome :)

Thanks

Andy

The Outdoor AP has been EOL for about a year now. The replacement is the 2x2 AP-AC-Mesh or the 3x3 AP-AC-Mesh Pro.

Ideally, you shouldn’t mesh them (despite the name) but use a cable connection instead. If you do mesh them then you will lose a little bit of throughput but it will still be faster than your current AP Outdoor.

And yes, they all use the same SSID and you roam between them as if you were connected to a single access point.

Thanks, I think I'll stick with Unifi then. Going to try the floor plan tool in the controller software and see what it thinks but my plan is to put a Nano HD in the ceiling on my landing. I think that should give me decent coverage as it's easier for wifi to go through floors made of wood beams and ply than horizontally through breezeblock? Then I'll get a new outdoor AP. I may put another AP downstairs like a AC Lite but not sure how I'd get ethernet to it...

This is upstairs with the Nano, scale set and walls & windows put in. Looks pretty good?
