Messed up hard drive

I have two hard drives in my pc.

One is a windows 7 boot disc and runs stuff and is where games etc are run off.

The other is a 1tb hard drive that simply sits there and has data stored on it.

Problem is that my brother in his stupidity has erased all the permissions on the 1tb drive so when I tried to click on the drive it just said access denied.

After fiddling about a bit, I can now get into the hard drive but don't really have that much access (I have to go through a set of stages for every folder, and lots of files just don't open).

Is there any way I can fix this so I don't lose 800gb of stuff.

thanks

Thanks :)

Anyone here know the answer?

Hmm, one thing may be to make yourself the "owner" of the drive in question. This isn't how Windows would do things normally so it may not be as secure but will get you back to your data.

Right click on the drive and choose Properties. Click to the Security tab and choose the Advanced button. Clickover to the Owner tab and choose Edit (UAC may invoke at this point, if so click on through.

Your username should be listed along with the adminstrators group. Tick the box for Replace owner on subcontainers and objects.

If your name doesn't appear in the list, click on Other user of groups on that window and put in your username and OK.

Hope this helps. :)
