out of interest, if the Office Communication Server the only way to have video and voice with Messenger for Mac?

Just switched over to M4M from Adium (just for a change really) and i can't really see any advantages or disadvantages they both just work... I spose you get proper emoticons on MSN but thats about it...

Currently have to resort over to Skype if I want to talk to people which would certainly not be my weapon of choice... if only everyone was on iChat/AIM but they're not, the majority are on MSN and that wont change so what is the best solution?

aMSN or Mercury Messenger for webcam.

How can you get rid of Adium for Mac Messenger?! You're obviously not customising it enough.
couple of reasons... firstly people who you are talking to that are on MSN (on windows) see your text as a jagged non AA font and it looks yucky they say... also the fact that i only use MSN out of its extensive list of services so seemed a waste...

i do miss the hud style skin i had going on tho :(

tbh just fancied trying it out i think...

To sum up..

Adium - Based on the Libgaim library, and support relies on the open source community having access to the video stream which, at the last time I checked, wasn't hopefull.

MSN - Support for webcams has been "coming soon" since Office 2007 was shipped. I think they've forgot.

All the other IM client's I've tried were horribly designed, so I went back to MSN messenger as 99% of my friends use that, anyway. It seems people would rather chat on Facebook than use an IM client anymore

Im using amsn for vid and adium as normal chat program, i cant wait for Adium to support audio and video :)

Same here mate :) I've only had os x on the comp for a few days and its the only decent msn program I've found for the mac.
Actually, can anyone get there adium to send files? Mine bloody doesn't....

True.

Plus I also get the feeling MS don't want to put it in, because a simple thing like that might make more people switch to Apple and still have things like that available to people who are so used to MSN etc.

I personally wish everyone would start using skype.

As well as providing instant messaging it's by far the best voice and video chat program on windows, mac and linux. Not to mention all the other stuff like skype out.

That's the problem..

It needs more than 1 friend to push the idea. I'd love to use Skype but I don't know many people who would switch to it, if any. Despite the praise I give it :(

Yeah, same.

The majority of people I know using skype are making calls, not instant messaging. I tried to persuade my contacts to move but some stubbornly refuse and thus I have had to keep adium. I actually kinda understand that sometimes people don't want to talk but don't mind writing sporadic messages.

Right, I really wanted to get my gf to love the Mac OS X. But two things, she needs to master Microsoft Access so have to go back to Windows and one other thing... Webcam support for MSN. The Mac MSN doesn't have web cam support, I've tried Skype video call from Mac to Windows yesterday and it didn't work. aMSN seems to work but works very slow (compared to windows). The only webcam functionaility I got to work is Google Mail Chat. Unfortunately she has no contacts on GMail. So...looks like its back to Windows.

Very true... I'm about half and half with my friends now.
