Messenger/Live Messenger, differences.

Now you make a "call" instead of an "audio conversation".

also it looks nicer, but is slightly more computer intensive(On my fairly poor computer it takes a while to work out what's going on when you sign in).

There's sharing folders also which may possibly be the most pointless thing ever.

I'm not upgrading until I need to. I ran the Live messenger as a beta, its used so much RAM and was very slow. Might try it out in a bit.

What the hell is that anyway?
You can have a shared folder between any number of contacts. It's a very neat feature for swapping data. You open your SF and plonk a photo in there, and the contact who you've shared the folder with can instantly see it too.

Provided you let a-patch run it's smooth little hand over it then Windows Live Messenger is lovely and easy to use.

I think it's slowly morphing to allow skype people to use it. I know that I can use my handset over both programs now.

That the same also until I used it. A friend wanted some pics while chatting on WLM, could have e-mailed them (or sent/attached them indvidually) but threw them in the folder & they had instant access just like Network sharing :)

I installed Live a while ago and 75% of my contact list disappeared! (I used the same MSN account to sign in obviously.) When I uninstalled and went back to 7.5 they were all there again!

It may have been the time when they were having problems, I had the same trouble. Give it another try :)

its slightly off topic but does anyone know how to change this;

on msn 7.5 you can right click the icon, send instant message, and it will only lisy people online/busy/away

on live it lists every contact, online, offline whatever

my list has 100+ contacts and its a pain scrolling down every damn contact in that crappy little window just to get to someone whos name starts with say "Z" is there anyway to show online contacts only... personally i cant see the point, why would i wanna chat to someone whos offline anyway ?

i guess i could just open the main window but like msn 7.5 theres about a 5-10 second wait for it to appear and its very annoying... ( i have no idea why it does this, it happens when i sign in also what ever version i use... )

Sorry a bit of a noob as far as msn/live messenger goes but i always thought that these were an easy door into your computer for unsavoury people

I don't think security is much of an issue, could be wrong though, but I've never had any trouble :)

that is because you can now send messages to offline contacts at last.

Just need to enalbe show as offline apart from these users and will have as much functionality as ICQ did

I just ran an update on the already installed Plus! after i installed Live and it updated to what you just linked me to. Guess if you already had the Plus! mod it updates it for you.
Thanks anyway :)

Edit: Ok well uninstalled Live Messenger now anyway and reverted to MSN 7.5. What a waste of time that was, half the plugins which made MSN 7.5 useful arent compatible with Live Messenger now. Remind me please; what is the point in Windows Live Messenger again?
