Hey guys,

My mate has only just got a new MacBook and he’s tried to download Messenger:mac but its not working for him – on any connection or network?

Basically, when you try to login, it instantly returns a login failure message.

He says his settings are all still set to default and his net access is fine?

Any ideas?

Cheers,

SW.

Messenger:Mac is an old version and it's legacy PowerPC code. There's a new universal binary v7 now called Microsoft Messenger. I don't particularly like it - most users around here use AdiumX instead.

The only useful thing that Microsoft Messenger has, is its fast transfer speeds of lan, which Adium doesn't have. Useful at on a university network anyway.

I spoke to my friend today and he's still not having any joy...

He said he's tried Audium (didn't mention AudiumX though - are they the same thing?). Not being 'Mac-minded, I'm all out of ideas?

Any other suggestions?

Cheers,

SW.

If he's tried AdiumX, has he tried the connect over http option? I had a problem with getting an iMac to work with MSN until I used the http option (even on a router which apparently wasn't blocking any ports...). If not, then he could always try Mercury Messenger (www.mercury.to), and try the different connection options on that. Haven't tried it for a while, and it didn't have the best interface when I was using it, but it is well featured.

Unfortunately I'm away from my Powerbook for a couple of days, so may need to leave it to others if you require more detail about connecting over http...
