I'm quite happy with MSN Messenger 7.5 thanks. How do I stop it informing me there is an update every hour? I tried Windows Live messenger but there's a lot of stuff I'll never use and it takes longer to load etc etc. Plenty of excuses if I need them anyway.

Cheers

afaik there is no way to turn off msn's "new version" alerts.

Have you tried trillian? or A.N.Other IM? There's loads out there and most of them don't include M$-Bloatware like tabs and "Customer Experience Programs".

Looking at WLM now i think i might d/l trillian and give it a whirl lol! :D

WLM is actually rather good when you've de-bloated it with the mess.be patch (essential).

2nd that. WLM is a great piece of software when you've removed the microsoft cluture. Here's my MSN de-cluttered:

The only clutter I cannot remove is the "non-instant messaging" group

Go to the main window for MSN. See the arrow pointing down in a box? Click on that and then go to Contacts>Sort Contacts by. Untick "Group Non-Instant Messaging Contacts Together" and that will get rid of that.

You're a god, cheers! WLM is now 100% bloat free

All you have to do is download it then select Suggested then click apply. Job done.

WARNING.
You do have to periodically selec t the windows update option in XP antispy to update windows then after done just select suggested again.

Thanks for the advice chaps. I'll give that mess.be patch a go on Live Messenger.

Edit, what exactly am I downloading from mess.be, the patch in the Important Announcements box at the top left or something from the Downloads section?

The 'Mess.be patch' or 'mess patch', in the top left from memory. They don't allow deep linking, so I can't help you further.
