check out this messy rig i just built its my old P4 getting it ready to be sold would be nice to have tidy cables but cant seem to do any better then that
so what do you all think of it? sink or swim?
EDIT: i have made sure non of the cables are touching the cpu fan but cant be certain they will stay that way
That doesn't look too bad to me, my case is worse and that is even with using mainly SATA cables. You might be able to tuck some of the power cabling above the hard drives if you change the connectors used but that is about it unless you buy thin or rounded IDE cables as suggested.
Personally, I would bend the main power cable (20pin?) under the hard drive bay, and then do your best to bend that IDE cable near it under there aswell, they fold really well and you just need to get the right angle on the fold to make it go the way you want
kwl didnt know they sold rounded IDE cables, just had a look on site. Bit too late for my other system now i use SATA only (big step forward) but thanks for bringing them to my attension.
1 question (this will make me sound old ) but i notice that OC dont stock the old SCSI cables no more, is it possible to buy rounded ones of those too??? (for the young builders here the SCSI is that HUGE cable that looks like an IDE that stands out on that pic )
Just done a quick search and it appears you can buy rounded SCSI cables, unfortunately I can't say where from but there are quite a few places that do offer them it seems so it shouldn't be too hard to track down.
take both side pannels off and try to tape some cables around the back of the motherboard tray so that theres not much caple hanging out (use strong tape! or some other way of keeping them there). ive just done this to mine, its improved a lot, looks a lot better.
you could also use some cable ties to keep some of it together.
i dont know what you could do about that sata cable tho :| mabye if you can get an extention cable u could hide it in some way or other
