I have the chance to buy a Meta Quest 2

One of the main reasons for buying it would be to use with iRacing and a couple of other racing games like AC

Does the Quest 2 work with these games, is it any good or would I be better off getting a more "PC" VR headset?

Almost anything else will be a significantly higher cost(and not always a significant improvement). If you're getting a decent deal on this, it's probably worth it. Even if it's just so you can decide if vr is for you.

Try the standalone stuff too though, it's a lot of fun!

Coincidentally i tried iracing with my quest 2 earlier today. i thought the graphics were a bit poor. don't like the paid subscription system. i'll stick with AC and AMS2 and PC2.

Due to video compression over USB/wireless the distance track/cars/objects can look a bit blurry compared to a headset that has a direct video link.

Thanks all.

What would be a good alternative with Black Friday coming soon. I see that HP in the US have the Reverb G2 on sale at $299 just not here yet.

If you get used to the “sweet spot”, i.e. pointing your head where you’re looking rather than just moving your eyes about then I can’t think of anything better for PCVR sims at that price. Needs decent PC to run it though

If you use virtual desktop, hvec codec at 150 bitrate the compression is pretty much gone. Granted it's still not as good as a direct displayport, but the G2 has such a crap sweetspot I'd pick the quest2 (or better still the pico 4) over it. When you are in the sweetspot though, it is brilliant.

Might be worth a punt though as you can always send it back if you don't like it.

I'd recommend using a wired connection for Sim Racing on Quest 2, as you can bump up the bandwidth much higher than wireless which makes a huge difference in fast paced games.

I've been given this to try.

What standalone games or experiences would you suggest buying to show off the VR, I used to love the ghost train VR game on PSVR etc.

Also what will I need to get it working on PC with iRacing etc?

Try the free experiences First Steps and First Contact.

Other than that I'd recommend:
Walkabout Minigolf
Beat Saber
RE4
Vader Immortal
Superhot VR
Pistol Whip
Eleven Table Tennis
Puzzling Places

For starters.

To get it working on PC for iRacing you need either a wireless 5ghz router connected to your PC via ethernet, or (preferred for best visual quality) a USB3 lead with a C connector, as long as possible. The longer ones are expensive as normally the max length for a USB3 lead is 3m.
