It makes quite a difference on low end machines. Even on better machines the small boosts are noticeable, even under compiz (+gtk decorator).
A good thing with Mist is you can colour the elements yourself, so you're not stuck with the sick making pale blue.

Nice to see Dust is among the fastest. I wonder why UbuntuStudio is so slow.
