I'm curious as to what other people think of this game. I'm a big fan of Metal Gear Solid, Sons of Liberty and Snake Eater so naturally I picked up Guns of the Patriots on PS3. I've only really just got around to playing it and after a few hours I thought I'd give a few of my thoughts. Firstly, I like the little touches such as having an iPod in your inventory, it's little details like these that make this series for me, even though it's something that on the whole is small and insignificant, it really builds up when so many of these nice touches are implemented into the game. One thing that bugs me though is that I can't find a way to play my own music through the in game iPod, if there is a way that is.

The graphics are gorgeous throughout so far, although the lip syncing is a bit shoddy at times, the sounds are alright, that's about as far as I can really go with that, I think the weapons all sound a bit samey and they seem to sound a little weak, imo of course. One thing that has really been bugging me so far is the amount of cut scenes, and the length of them. Now, in the previous 3 games there has been a lot of cutscenes, and a lot of long cutscenes, but they don't even scratch the surface of the ones I've had to endure so far. Some are interesting, such as meeting up with Meryl & Naomi, having the Colonel talk to you from his house, others seem totally boring to me, notably the Drebin cutscenes which are only really rescued by the loveable little monkey that is always present. :D

Another criticism I have is that in the mission briefings you get the opportunity to watch 2 scenes simulatneously AND you get to control Metal Gear MK2. This is just too much for me, I was completely confused by the fact that I could drive the robot around while listening to Otacon and watching Sunny burn eggs, too much going on for my liking, I'd rather have just had one thing to concentrate on instead of three.

Anyway, I haven't really progressed very far yet, I've just got to Liquid Octopus and I'm fighting her/him/it, kind of losing interest a little as the story just seems to wane a bit. I was put off from the very off that Snake is basically an OAP who's body is decomposing as you play, I'm STILL frustrated at the fact you have to watch his stress levels, is this Metal Gear Solid? Or a pensioner simulator? I want to be snapping necks and cashing cheques, not squatting in a shady corner with a cigarette and a playboy magazine waiting for him to de-stress.

Kind of a pointless thread but I wondered what other people's thoughts were on this game, I appreciate it's been out for some time and we're due a new one soon but I can't help but feel a little underwhelmed thus far compared to the other 3 that I've played. A random piece of information would be that I still find Metal Gear Solid to be the best and most innovative so far, with Sons of Liberty coming a close second.

I think I'm one of the minority who found it a stodgy, badly written pile of pretentious crap.

MGS1 and Snake Eater remain my favourites.

doesn't really have a lot of replay value, well for me personally
other than that, its amazing, also really love the soundtrack

I despise the boss fights in mgs4 but my biggest problem with the game is the ending, tho i dont think its fair to go into before you have had a chance finished the game.

Thought the camo system was terrible and somewhat game ruining. The AI needs to go to specsavers tbh.

MGS1 is infinitely better, that and the tanker part of 2!

I've just finished act 2 and I've definitely got a different viewpoint than when I started. I think the beginning of this game is quite slow paced but it seems to be picking up quite well now. I still feel little underwhelmed with Snake though, being an old codger just isn't fun at times, especially when you see Raiden and Vamp and all the stuff they can do. Can't wait for MGS Rising now. :)
