ok, i've been watching diggnation, and saw this - it's quite cool, but what i'd like to know is if anybody has, or knows where to get a HD or at least higher def version.
 
tried contacting the person who uploaded the video in the first place?

That would be my 1'st port of call.

you mean again :p tis how our moon was formed, theory says that a Mars sized body collided with the Earth during the formation of the inner solar system.

Would certainly be a spectacle!!! Reminds me of an old 60's? science-fiction film where a planet is on course to hit the Earth, and a select few humans have to board a spacecraft to escape to another planet.

Aye true :) I remember when Schumaker-Levy 9 hit Jupiter :) that was spectacular. I remember when I was fortunate enough to visit Sydney, I visited an observatory nearby that had recorded the impact, they showed it to the group, wasn't much really to see, but it was awe inspiring to myself :)
 
Seen that a while ago, made me wonder where all the energy really comes from when a massive rock hits a planet, they say you can't create or destroy energy only convert it so where does it all come from if its just a bit of kinetic to start?

Say a meteor has a small amount of movement and speeds up from passing close to gravitational fields then finally hits somewhere, did the energy get extracted from the mavity and if so how's that possible because the mavity won't loose any of its strength (energy?) would it?
 
Gravitational Potential Energy, its noobs stuff. i learnt about this at playschool.

"Not all meteors travel at the same speed. The slowest travel at 25,000 miles per hour (m.p.h.) and the fastest at 160,000 m.p.h"

That is a serious ammount of energy, combined with a serious ammount of mass.

Where was that energy extracted from if not from mavity, as far as i know the mavity won't loose any potential energy which means the rock gets a free boost?

Totally unrealistic though, as I think if something that big hit us the Earth would crack open like an egg, but it still scared me :(
 
It's pretty incredible to imagine the earth's crust peeling up as it describes in the desciption, it would apparently reach into the upper atmosphere and into space. Mindnumbing.

These end of the world events really scare me though.

Dont be scared, uve got more chance of getting killed by a knife wielding chav then a meteor :)

Super string Theory without mass there is no mavity without mavity there is no mass, or some nonscence along those lines.

I dont know lol i read a few books about it, its one of those Unkowns as far as i know. Just have to accept the latest therum and work using it.
