I've been looking at different variants of certain viruses trying to figure out how they spread to removable drives in Windows XP. So far the only thing seems to be via autoplay somehow.

Does anyone know any more details of other ways in which they can spread? Or have any more information on how they spread via autoplay? e.g. will disabling autoplay in XP via TweakUI provide stop the spread of a virus to removable drives or are there other ways in which it can infect them?

TIA :)

stopping autorun will prevent them from spreading from the memory stick (unless the pc has it already, then it can copy it to the memory stick, so the user could get their drive infected by plugging it into an infected machine)

nod32 stops them and cleans the memory sticks also.
