Hi All,

I was hoping to find out as many useful ways to verify mileage as possible.

The only way I know of is to check the previous MOTs so if any of you know any tricks with VAG-Com or the eqiuvalents for other brands, or any really useful websites then that would be great.

Cheers.

Can't you put the VIN into the DVLA website and it comes up and shows you previous failed MOT's and potentially the mileage?

Have you got a link?

No, I'm at work - but I'm pretty sure it's somewhere on the DVLA or some official MOT website or something. Pop the VIN/MOT Number in and it brings up a history of the car including previous MOT failures and I would think recorded mileages.

That's brilliant, thanks. Very useful tool.

Does anyone know of a way to read the mileage recorded in the ECU or some other way to see if there's something awry with the odometer reading?

Note that there is no requirement for the tester to record mileage on an MOT, the local garage never does, for whatever reason, it's optional.

Reading the mileage in the ECU probably wont help you, as it'll be the same as the odometer reading in most cases.

It's easy to spot a clocked car. If everything feels right and adds up properly, its fine. Simply check the service history, check the MOT history, and telephone the servicing dealer to check.

I know that on the Alfa 156 and other similar age Alfas you can read the mileage from the ECU - in this case it is recorded seperately to the one on the odometer (which is recorded in the rev counter).

I would suggest consulting an owners forum.
