Metro 2033, game, ending, alternative ending, and OMG WOW!

The surface areas are really good, and I enjoyed the last segment of the game climibing up the tower.

I'd disagree with this, for me the surface areas were by and large mediocre and far less fun than many FPS games. The metro had a good atmosphere and the engine/style suited it well; go outside and it wasn't a patch on even 2007 games like Crysis IMO.

absolutely love this game, amazing graphics, what i thought was an amazing story, infact i will go to say that it is easily one of the best stories i have played in a while, compared to the likes of call of crap and medal of poo :) got to admit though the game is somewhat of a power hog

just started this on hard, at the dead city part, but i got a problem where i cant continue, ive run out of filters and you need a gas mask otherwise you die in the outside parts, what the hell am i ment to do?

Also, running great fully maxed on 6950 crossfire and looks amazing :)

I didn't actually know that there were two endings :), I got the bad ending on the first run through.

It is a good game, extremely pretty. I agree with the above comments about the outside being relatively dull mind. It doesn't help that the mask effect on screen really detracts from the looking at the scenery, in my opinion.

Still, it wasn't anything ground breaking. I can't say I have an urge to play it through a second time around. A good game that was certainly worth what I paid (~£5 iirc), but not revolutionary. Better than HL2? Seriously? I'm glad you enjoyed it so much OP, but you're insane :p.

im stuck in the library, you climb some bookcases to get into the chandelier room (just when you get the revolver with rifle stock, awesome :D), but i just get stuck in that room, none of the doors open or anything.

edit: heh just had to shoot the chandelier lol.

^^True, but I'd say even something like Far Cry (a 7 year old game) does outdoors areas as well as Metro 2033... not as good for a technical perspective, for sure, but just in terms of how it ties in with the game, how they've made use of their tech, the environments they create etc.

Even games that got absolutely panned like Soldier of Fortune 3 from a couple of years back does outdoors areas at least as well as Metro (ignoring some ropey animation etc - the jungle environments were very pretty)

Note, I'm not trying to knock the game here, as I said I thought the metro sections looked fantastic - just that the outdoors bits were in general nothing special and didn't really grab me. OpFlash:DR, MoH, BFBC2 etc etc all are equally as good if not better in terms of outdoors environments.

Anyone here play with 6950/6970's in crossfire. how does it run?

Will be soon when i get my other 6950.Will let u know

This game is the most underrated and least appreciated of all time.
Everything from the atmosphere, sound, graphics, story is freeking amazing yet review sites like ign ect give it a poor 7.5

I loved the game as well, one of the better ones from 2010. Recently replayed it too as I got a new PC and tried it on that ranger difficulty that came with DLC and got the alternative ending too.

I loved Metro too, and i do hope the sequel has a bit more of an RPG element to it - a game the scale of STALKER in the Metro universe would be a good game indeed!

The other bit that looked really good for me, is when I think you reach the big door, and the monster are attacking you, but just before that I think that big ball of electricity chases you and explodes, the graphics, was the best I have ever seen in a game period.

I really enjoyed metro, one of the best games of 2010 that I played imo.

The bit that was poor was the blobs on the floor level, I simply didnt have any ammunition left by that point, so I was forced to put it on easy to get through it.

I really can't understand the "story is amazing" guys. Its bog standard FPS fair, admitedly its bog standard sci-fi story as opposed to massively massively more used bog standard war storys(the vast majority being relatively true to history rather than the less common, but still well used, WW2 + aliens, or set in current times war + surviving Nazi's, etc, etc).

Hell its been ages since I played it but, survival of a war/plague/alien invasion, lone guy asked to do something incredibly important, general standard traps and twists throughout, befriend/destroy the aliens, plague, enemy in whatever war it was, pretty bog standard linear story that most games follow.

Atmosphere was good, in parts, gameplay, meh, combat, meh, story, meh, twists.... seriously, graphics... ok.

Never really sure why people don't get this, if you have a narrow "corridoor" based game with little difference and fairly dark and gloomy, you can concentrate your graphical power FAR more than in an open enviroment type of game, thats just how life works. Drawing backgrounds, and 200 trees is a heck of a lot harder than a pitch black tunnel with 3 things lit up well at the end. Neither is better, or worse, Metro 2033 looks "great" mostly as other FPS's like COD's/MOH's are fairly cheap generic FPS's these days, based in COD's case on a millenia old engine. It certainly looks great, I liked it on max settings(bar the utterly ridiculously poor DOF effect, would you all insist on enabling it if it was renamed the "blurs half your screen unrealistically for half your performance setting?", but much like Crysis 1, it was a "graphics" game, rather than substance. Warhead had more substance in gameplay/story than 1, but still not brilliant but it was far better to actually play.

I'll take gameplay over graphics any day, and dark corridoors, aliens jumping out behind you, and painfully unimaginative "in your own mind" level bits are incredibly unoriginal.

Its not a bad game, its not even average, vs other FPS's is was pretty damned good, but its no where near a great game.

Yeah that was pretty annoying, I was having to knife the things that create the blobs that were on the floor and save my ammo for the ones on the wall (even though I found a hiddle stash of guns on some cart thingy)
