Anyone else playing through Metro 2033 and notice in some scenes these white or dull looking bits or particles floating around in the air…??

More noticeable around lights, or camp fires, or even on the menu screen etc… Its really odd, it only happens with this game, and I thought it might be my GPU having graphical glitches…

Stressing the system with Furnark, Heaven Engine Demo or even the newly released green giant demo doesn’t show this… so looks to be the game and therefore is this meant to be some type of simulated dust or haze or something? I noticed the game does have some rather odd green tunnel growth that looks florescent – radioactive plant life I guess. Also smoke and foggy areas are all over so maybe its just air particles…

GPU temp never goes past 70c, that’s well within safe limits. It’s a 5870 Vapor-x so therefore its quite a cool running GPU, it is overclocked using ATI over drive. I have removed this, and still game displaying these weird air particles in areas where light or fires are present..

Happens in DX9, DX10 or DX11 mode – tell the truth, not too sure it it’s a problem or not…. It is odd. Even more so when in some areas they flicker almost green or grey… Weird..

no worries i notice it too especially in dark areas with artificial light there is one section when riding a train where it gets really bad i thihnk it's just the game TBH it almost looks like lots of floating dust i first thought my gpu was on it's way out but it's very common apparently (looked into it a couple of weeks ago)

Fantastic, thank you…. Puts my mind at rest.

I thought it was artificial lighting that caused this… I must admit I did, and for a moment it had me worried, think that my GPU was causing problems. Thankfully if someone else has noticed this too, then it’s not just me.

Still, I think I can see what the developers were trying to achieve with this. Sadly in some areas the particles come up to bright, and ruin the affect. Dust shining in light is very subtle, and has a foggy haze to it, not glowing white, then dulling to grey speckles… Even worse when next to some radioactive plant life and they glow or speckle green… lol.

However with this said, the camp fires embers look good so not a total failure..

there is a point later in the game when your going through a train yard and look at the rails it looks like the whole track is artifacting but it's actually the partical physics playing up i'll try get you a screenie of it later tonight :)

Sounds like your describing the dust on the game. In dx 11 mode it looks quite realistic but in dx 9/10 it looks more like artifacts lol.
