I bought a bunch of games during Covid lockdowns and ended up playing CSGO most of the time:D (Although I did drag myself away long enough to complete RDR2 - what a game!)

Now I’m trying to wean myself off CS again, and get through Metro 2033 (Redux) and then move onto the other sequels too. I’m loving the vibe and atmosphere of the game (shame I’m such a scaredy cat) but I’m getting quite frustrated with not know exactly what I’m doing.

How do you know what guns are good, what to pick up/swap? Or even what the guns are called? Lol, they all look the same on the ground. If you pick up guns and you’ve modified yours, do you keep your mods etc? What the heck am I doing in the Ammo trader thingy? *deep breath* …Why can’t I see how many gas mask filters or med kits I have left? What are all the weapon icons along the top of the gui? Can monsters see your flashlight if you’re being stealthy?

Etc etc! Help! :D

I like the fact everything is not spoon fed, and now I’m on chapter 3 I’m understanding the monster more and the combat (ie shoot slower and more precise) but I think I need some pointers especially regarding weapons and the market etc.

I guess the hand holding of games today had ruined gamers
:p
Well, I hadn't played a single player game for probably 10+ years until Covid lockdowns - when I upgraded my PC and played through RDR2 which I absolutely loved from start to finish.
When I played this game I remember I tried to use the pneumatic weapon that fired arrows more often than not, as you can retrieve the arrows for reuse and thus have infinite ammo, as long as you can in fact retrieve them. If you shoot them too far off or a body falls in such a way that you can't loot them bac, then they are lost, so tend to have to save a lot.
Yeah I'm learning quickly that stealth is actually the way forward. Who knew your watch actually tells you when you're being stealthy enough?! Heck there's not even anything that tells you to right-click when holding the journal/lighter to read your checkpoints properly! Throwing knives are proving very useful. I've seen a few YT videos where people are doing silent takedowns on people with a knife, no idea how to do that :o
It doesn't really matter on weapon choice until you play Metro Exodus and can start upgrading parts on them.
You can upgrade weapons in 2033. Well, I'm playing Redux, perhaps there's a difference. Again, if you Google it gets very confusing...

Ha, indeed @Harshell123. Pretty bemused by some of the replies here. I’m usually one of the first to say “google it” but given it’s an old series of games of which there are three, plus two (?) redux versions where it seems like controls and weapons have changed slightly, well there’s a lot to be confused about especially in a game that purposefully doesn’t give you all of the information. For example, I still don’t know how to do a stealth kill (with knife), and I only just found out how to charge my flashlight  lol!

I’d love to be able to help you out, but it’s been so long since I played the other games. I finished Exodus for the third time a couple of months back so if you ever get stuck on that one I’m happy to help.
I got them all on a Steam sale last year so unless I get bored/annoyed with it I’ll be moving on to Last Light or Exodus whichever is next. I don’t believe 2033 is all that long anyway and I’ve just started two weeks off over Christmas:D

EDIT: Although I am a complete scaredy-cat and can't play much at a time of Metro :o I just find the sounds and atmosphere quite erm.. intimidating :p
