Metro last light causing power downs?

I'm on the 5th level of last light and had no problems up till now.

I keep getting random crashes where my pc seems to power down but the lights stay on and components still running. The monitor goes to sleep because it gets no signal and the pc obviously doesn't respond.

Temps on GPU don't go over 80 (6970) and CPU don't hit more than 53 on any core (2500k).
I've tried the latest drivers 13.12, and previous of 13.4.
Game was running fine up until this level and i can't understand why it wouldn't at least reset or power down completely. Kinda weird how it powers down but still runs.

Any ideas?

Sounds like a graphics card memory crash. Is it over-clocked at all? I found later section of Last Light fairly unstable myself and had to remove the OC from my card to finish it.

It does have an OC on it, although GPU mem use doesn't seem to go over 1100 yet. I will default the clocks and try that.

If you've got an earlier save point (before the level causing the issue), you could try going back to that and playing through again. It's unlikely but possible it will then work fine.

Does it happen randomly on the level? or at same point? also does it happen in other games? try some other intensive gfx games to see if it happens in them too.

Yeah, like Baboonanza said, try removing overclocks. If that doesn't work then try increasing the voltage on the GPU (if you can) and the CPU if that doesn't work.

I'm surprised you are experiencing problems, I have a i5-4670k not overclocked with a 780 and have no problems running this game so maybe you do have a problem with your graphics card

Well SoundDoctor has a 3770k and a 770 lightning and was getting game crashes in Crysis 2 + 3. He was about to overvolt his CPU/GPU because it was recommended on a forum but updated his drivers instead and that solved the problem so yeah idk. Try all of the above and cross your fingers.

I thought my card was overclocked but i was mistaken so it rules that out, though it doesn't seem to tax it that hard anyway.
Verified files on steam.
Replayed level 'facility' fine until i got to the area with the water wheels and crawling through sewers, it seems to do it in this part of the map.

When it does crash the restart button doesn't seem to affect the pc, though i can see my keyboard reboot, i have to hold power off. I find that a bit strange?
Event viewer doesn't turn up anything, usually you'd expect it to throw out logs of catalyst crash errors but there is nothing.

I had similar problems a few years ago to yours, the power led used to blink also.
It was the psu on its way out.

I would be more inclined to believe it was a PSU/hardware issue if it wasn't for the fact it only does it in a particular area of a single game.
I think i will have to find a save game which is past this map to see if problems continue.
Thanks for the suggestions boys.
