Mexican Director. Don't Know His Name.

Alejandro Amenábar was the person who directed the original Abre los ojos aka "open your eyes" which later turned into vanilla sky

:)

do you want the guys name?

its Alejandro Amenábar... or the film that vannilla sky was based on?

thats open your eyes.

Here

is this the guy?

EDIT: Bah! beaten to it. but I gave a link...

Pedro Almodóvar

Complete stab in the dark with this guy, but has been releasing films around the same time as Vanilla sky and is thought to have made some very good films (bad education, Talk to her and all about my mother). Dont really know if its who you are looking for but he is foreign so meets some of the criteria you set out. not mexican but spanish though.

Bloody brillant

Box set in HMV on the cheap, saw Bad Education at the cinema, thought I was going to hate it, loved it :)

Glad my guess was accurate.

First time i saw All about my mother it bored me stupid. but everyone else said it was great, i guess i was just in one of those moods to hate what everyone else likes. I think my housemate has it on DVD so i will have to give it a watch. really want to see bad education though, suppose to be very good.

Also check out the classic "Cinema paradiso" or "Intacto" a film spansih about luck (the concept is Luck can be traded and used or stolen from people), saw it the other day and was very impressed.

If you are in the mood for a strange film try the german "the Tin Drum" a film about a boy during the second world war that decides to stop growning and lives for the next few years as a child. He even joins up with the german army but as a child. stranger the more i think about it. Its weird and farcical in parts but worth the watch. Rent it first and dont blame me if you dont like it.
