Guys,

I've never been so tempted to buying a car.
The MG ZR just looks the best second hand priced car out there imo, especially as for what I'm looking to purchase next, regardless of all the Rover issues and depreciation reasonings.

I was speaking to a mechanic the other day who said it will be around 7-10 years before you actually struggle to find parts for MG's and Rovers, because there will always be some of them in circulation, i.e. scrapyards, smaller car part dealers... etc... But what's your feelings on that?

If I was to buy one, and needed parts, how much trouble would i have to go to compared to parts for my Mk1 Punto now, say?

Cheers,

Petey :)

Ahhhhh, dude, my bonfire is nearly out :(

Are they really that similar to the 90's 200 series?
I thought they'd come on leaps and bounds. They just look one of the best cars on the roads tbh. Your getting a 1.4/1.8, very quick, neat handling car with 17" alloys for well under 4grand when its less than 4 years old in most cases.

I'm glad about the parts though :)

Whats the engine like on your wifes ZR? Has she got the 1.4 , 1.8 or 2.0TD?

Cheers bud,

Petey.

Another car you could look at is the Citroen Saxo VTR.

Any serious suggestions?

I had a ZR ages ago for a company car it was pants

In what way?

And yeah, I've considered the Zetec S.
My dads had three Fiestas as his ADI cars, and he's loved every single one. They're reliable as muck, and he could probably get me half decent deal on one as he's bought his last 5'ish cars from Ford :) They usually sort him a pleasant price...

Just the MG is so cheap, and attractive, and seems good performance?

Regards,

Pete.

...however, finding an un-chavved up example is quite hard. I've noticed you are the same age as me (18) and when getting insurance quotes on a VTR i noticed it was more expensive than insuring a Zetec S. It's because of the chav image it has...

Yeah, got it in one mate.
They're ok cars, just I've never found anyone remotely decent who drives one. They've always got their fog lights on during the day, doing 45 round corners, and are off to cut the next persons hair or something?... Just don't take to them at all, seem to attract morons bigtime.

106 Quicksilver/Gti over one of those anytime :)

Fiesta Zetec-S is a good idea bud, and it's certainly on my list.
You can't go wrong with Ford, and as I said my dads last 3 ADI cars have been Fiestas, and he's never found a fault with them. Ford's services is poor, cause they can afford to be sloppy I guess, but overall you wouldn't complain. Dad certianly hasn't. He's got a 54' focus too  :p

Still want an MG. Nothing on this thread yet has put me off ;)...

The prices are already starting to climb, i got my 03 105 ZR with 12k on it for £4.5k just after they went bust and I could probably sell it for about £5.2 now!

Could you? I don't think even a dealer would go above 5k for an 02 plate...

They are not bad cars, the interior is a bit crap but apart from that i like them. For the price they are great value. for the the same price as my 03reg 105 ZR i would probably struggle to get a 51reg bottom of the range corsa.

Yeah, exactly. I really feel you get a lot for your money in an ZR, and the recent depreciation makes it an even better offer.
There was one on ATrader for 3k other day, 30k miles, 02 plate, 1.8 as well  Just mind boggling'ly cheap :)

...And they'd excrement all over a saxo anyday in most departments
