Basically I need to choose between these two - which one do you think would suit me best? I'm 6 foot 2 so hardly small, and have a few mates a regularly chuck in the car.

Specs are pretty similar but as you'll know the ZS is just a bit bigger than the ZR, engines are the same at 115BHP.

0-60 on the ZR is obviously quicker, at 9.1 versus 9.5.

Would I notice much difference in speed (acceleration) and has anyone got any personal expeience with these cars? I went in a ZR TD and it seemed lovely.

Sensible answers only please :)

Hmmm, go for the one you prefer the styling of the most.

The Diesel engine won't get "oh noes! rover disease!" either, will it? which could tip you more towards the zs, perhaps.

ZR or ZT, the ZS styling is crap IMO :)

Edit: and don't worry about your height, I am about that height and have a Rover 200, and have no problems with the size.

The ZS and ZR use the Rover L series engine, an old school direct injection lump, but a solid and very reliable engine.

In terms of choosing between the two, the ZS is the most practical car with a pretty large boot and rear doors, though rear leg room in either model is fairly limited, especialy with a tall drive. Performance wise there won't be a huge difference, there is only about 100kg difference between them. IMO the saloon version of the ZS is the nicest looking car (ZR is a bit..ermm...McDonalds car park for my liking).

The l series engine is quite easy to tune. Should be able to get around 140-150bhp.

It'd be a Mk1 - I can't afford that much at the moment.

I do like the ZR though, they seem to have a really nice look about them.

If anyone wants to spec me a reliable diesel warm hatch, feel free :)

Insurance is still an issue as ever as I'm only 19.

Get a ZS in red with the Straights and skirts. You could get the big spoiler (I would :D) but people would probably take the **** even more with a diesel.

I have to say the L series diesels are great and VERY solid reliable engine, I had a Rover 600 SDI and Ragged the life out of it everday and it never let me down once.

You looked at the ZT?

It has an interior that just about looks like it was made this decade. :p
BMW diesel engine as well that seems to be alright with a remap.

They do have problems though, but no worse than the ZR or ZS.

I looked at a ZT butr insurance was a no-no.

I like the ZR a lot, they look nice and are easier to get hold of than a ZS.

Any other takers?

Feel free to spec me an equally quick diesel :)

You do realise that diesel cars are:

a) Gay
b) Noisy
c) More importantly, run on fuel thats 15p a litre more than petrol which makes them no cheaper to run

Right?

I have a ZS btw and I love it. Handling is fantastic, but the ride is as hard as nails as a consequence. Dunno if the diesel models have more bouncy suspension or whether the whole range is given the firm suspension.
