just found an amazingly cheap MG ZR near me 3k infact i was looking at another car earlier (focus) but this has altered my desicion a little ;

2002 MG ZR 1.4 105 3dr Hatchback,
34,000 miles, in trophey blue metalic,1 former keeper,34k,fsh,alarm,multispoke alloys, half leather,12 mnths mot, absolutly immaculate inside and out. £2,995. ono

is there a reason why this could be so cheap i.e anything to watch out for with mg's etc bar the fact it could be stolen or somthing its only 12 miles away so its probs worth checking out if its still available

They have always seemed like a waste of money to me when compared with 25/200 prices, but i guess for £3000 you cant complain if you like the way it looks :)

Only real thing to check with a car this new is the way it generally drives, check its history carefully, i'd definately get an HPI done on it, and check the coolant levels and operating temperature of the 16v 1.4 as they are prone to failure. The needle should show rock solid half way along the dial, after about 2-3mins of driving.

Why would you want to buy a car for £3000 when still has manually operated handles to work the windows, and not even central locking, let alone remote central locking?

It'd be like driving around in a piece of the 1980's. Oh wait, it's a ZR, so technically at least, you ARE driving a piece of the 1980's. That'll be why they are so cheap, then.

It's cheap becuase it sucks, seriously, the Focus is light years ahead and the windows in it actually have a button to open them, as well, even on the base models.

Isn't it a bodykitted 216si?

dosnt look like it, and imo it has much more life looks wise than a focus also has nice leather seats

is there high demand for zr's and is it likely to have gone?

(awaits ambush of flame :D )

Depends what Focus you are comparing it to.

An ST looks far nicer than the ZR and most certainly drives better than a ZR.

At the end of the day, if you like it, do your HPI checks etc, make sure everything looks ok and buy it. Insurance is quite high on these, even though this version is really a warm hatch not hot.

If I had 3k and insurance wasn't a problem I'd get a 106 Gti..........that is hot.

Well it is - the entire ZR range is simply a Rover 25 (Which itself is simply a Rover 200) with a bodykit and different suspension.

Seriously, don't bother. If you absolutely must own a shining example of the reason you can no longer buy a brand new Rover, at least get a '+' model. This super-duper range topping trim level includes all the things you get on a bottom of the range Kia these days, which is an improvement on the standard 105 which has the following standard equipment:

a) Doors
b) A steering wheel
c) Some seats

Look at the budget, all he can get for the money is one of the early normal ones with that "lovely" interior and really high quality feeling panels :D

As opposed to the ZR which is a shining example of excellent quality panels and stunning interior design?

there dosnt actually seem to be many on auto trader 60 miles from me with 4k as My budget  just a handfull, is there high demand for zr's and is it likely to have gone?

If I had £3k and wanted performance & looks I wouldn't put it in a Rover. No offence to some of the 220 Turbo people on here lol.

If insurance wasn't an issue, which it is atm i'd get a 106 Gti.

Isn't this in the same class as a Saxo VTR? If you can deal with the image, the Saxo's are great performers, on straights and twisties.

So do you not care that it has windup windows and no central locking?

If not, then simply buy a 214i out of the paper for 500 quid. It's the same car, more or less, and you can save £2500.

Omg it doesn't even have central locking:S

An immobiliser, any security kit?

It's cheaper than the Focus for the same reason that one of those watches out of the funny machine at railway stations costs less than a Seiko.

Seriously, do this:

a) Buy a £500 214 base model
b) Donate £1000 to charity
c) Set fire to £500 and video it for this forum

You will be £1000 better off, have a warm fuzzy feeling inside, we'll all get a laugh, and you'll be in exactly the same position.

That's a very good price for "that" car.

Not where I would £3k of my own, but it's not my money so go ahead.

Like people have said, no spec in them which is disappointing.

However they do drive alright and look okish too.

Go for it :)
