A friend of my wife is looking for a new car.

Requirements:

Pretty
Pretty Colour
Reliable hassle free motoring.
5 door hatch, room for a failmy of 4.
>1.4cc
Manual, Petrol
£10k budget

A quick autotrader search with a filter of: 10k, 2022 onwards. < 15k miles threw up the MG3. There's a yellow one that ticks all the boxes.

They any good? reviews suggest very popular in Australia.

Any alternatives that are "better" Historically she's liked a Corsa.

Thank you.

That budget isn't enough to get something good that's newer than 2022 with less than 15k miles. It's mostly Cat S and Cat N stuff.
A MG3 might be as good as it gets.

Personally, I'd drop the 2022 and 15k requirement and go back to 2020 with 30k miles. That opens up all sorts of cars such as the Hyundai i20, Kia Rio, Vauxhall Corsa, and Honda Jazz.

I know its a different car, but I've got an MG4 and I was really impressed with the build quality of it. Got it in December 23 and had no issues with it yet.

I have sat in an MG3 and they seem a bit "cheaper", but still absolutely fine. I didn't sit in it and think it was awful like I have in some other cheaper cars.

As others have said, Japanese cars have a better reputation, but I think people are also too harsh on the newer Chinese cars coming out. They do give great value for money and in my experience have decent build quality as well.

Look at the previous-gen Suzuki Swift. Aim for a BoosterJet, the 1.0, in SZ5 specification (LED headlights, keyless entry and start, front and rear parking sensors, adaptive cruise, rear camera, etc.). Frugal, great little engine, stacks of kit – some of which isn't even available in rivals – and one of the most reliable options around.

Up to a seven-year warranty, too. You should be able to get one in budget with a good bit of that left, as a result. (https://cars.suzuki.co.uk/owners/warranty/)

Your mileage may vary on the looks front, though, but they do some attractive colours. Boot's a bit smaller than the gen of MG3 mentioned, too, but worth investigating nonetheless.

*edit* Just a random example, so you've some idea of what to look for: https://www.autotrader.co.uk/car-details/202406271187021

She test drove one (mg3) yesterday. Said it was gutless despite being faster (just) than her 2010 fiesta that it's replacing.

She then drove a 2014 1.4 TSI golf and proclaimed it the best thing ever. It's up for £10grand and she'll probably end up buying it.

Some people can't be helped.

Thanks.
