Hey guys,

Going to Miami with the other half in November but honestly I havent got a clue on the best place to stay/things to do etc! ive done a bit of research but thought I might get a decent response from someone that has perhaps been. Wheres the best part to stay? Things I dont want to miss out on etc?

Thanks in advance.

I absolutely hated Miami if I'm honest. Was there for a few days, stayed in Miami Beach.

Was a good beer, but other than that its expensive, tacky and a tourist trap. If you're already booked, my apologies I don't mean to put you off, your experience could differ drastically from mine, but if you're not I'd consider somewhere else.

We have only booked flights as they were dead cheap, happy to travel a bit further along the coast etc and not booked hotels yet

Went in December - enjoyed it tbh. Christmas day was deadish so spent time at the beach. The tram thing is pretty cool but mostly it's just a place to chill out. There's a couple of museums and gardens and bits but mostly just relaxing

You almost need to know spanish though - a lot of people we asked for directions etc didn't know english I guess because of the mexican migrants!

Rent a muscle car and cruise down the Florida Keys.*

Edit: No its not a euphemism ...

Yeah, the Keys are cool, 7 Mile Bridge on the way, but it’s about a 3.5 hour drive, maybe 270 kms.

Clearwater/St Petes far better option :)

Once again, 450 kms from Miami, but I preferred it up there, didn’t need to keep trying to read Spanish in Tampa/St. Pete.

Do you have a time machine to travel back to the 80's when Miami was cool ?

Now you’re talking, I remember my first time in Miami, I flew in from NYC around 1981-2.
As the doors opened from arrivals to the taxi rank, it was like having a bucket of warm water thrown at you, I was dripping until the cab’s a/c hit me, then I froze.
Stayed one night in a motel on Calle Ocho, Little Havana, staring at the mirror on the ceiling, listening to laughter and doors opening and closing, a regular hot sheet place, before driving up to Fort Lauderdale to meet my friend, who’d flown direct to Miami from Gatwick, the day that I’d left Heathrow for a couple of days in NYC with an old girlfriend.
