Hello

I have just received a pair of HD599 which is an upgrade from my hyperx cloud (original) headset.

Currently this is being paired with a Asus Xonar DGX 5.1, obviously this new setup has no mic so am I right in thinking my goto should be a modmic or v-moda boom mic? I have no want for a standalone yeti style one :)

Would I see any benefit from replacing the Xonar? I was looking at a g6 but was not sure.

I have a tomahawk b450 max board and only play fps games. Currently MW.

Any opinions welcome

If it can work with that headphone V-moda would certainly be cheaper.
Though V-Moda seems to use 3.5mm plug while Sennheiser's detachable cable has IIRC 2.5mm jack.
Though there are some other in cable boom mics with 2.5mm plug for headphone.

ModMic could be attached certainly and could be removed easily when not needed.

Creative's binaural simulation/HRTF algorithm would be certainly upgrade from old Dolby Headphone of that old Xonar.
If you have even used that Dolby Headphone...
I can certainly understand if you have disabled it.
Listening Dolby Headphone game recordings first time was quite shocking experience compared to expectations based on all Dolby hype.

Many thanks for taking the time to reply, I had forgotten about the dolby option and tested it tonight with the HD599s, sounded like I was inside a tunnel or bubble. Not sure if that is COD or the card or both :)

I assume that a g6 would replace the requirement for the Xonar? Would there be a better or alternative to the g6 that might be recommended?

Dolby Headphone sounding like some public path (no gothic cathedrals here in Finland) is completely normal:

For some whacked up reason amount of echo Dolby Headphone adds fast is just horrible and entirely unfit for games, which usulaly have their own enviromental echo in sound already.
Supposedly it's intended to imitate sound of movie theaters...
But have to wonder what movie theater would have such crap acoustics!

And if headphones have stronger bass, that bass bloat of Dolby Headphone becomes rather horrible.
Creative has lot more balanced HRTF algorithm in cards released in last decade.
(old CMSS-3D of X-Fi cards kills bass to emphasize details like foot steps etc)

SBX G6 is full replacement.
Instead of being internal card it's just USB device.
Creative is selling B-stock for £70, which is darn good price for the hardware. (even if skipping HRTF)
