I've put this here in the software forum as I'm pretty sure the problem lies with windows -the hardware being in new working condition.
For some reason my microphone is not being seen in windows and i suspect there is a simple fix.
going through control panel the microphone volume (Advanced > Master Volume) is set to maximum and the select box is ticked (however the balance slider for Microphone is greyed out) - going into the 'Advanced Controls for Microphone' sub section, the tone sliders are greyed out and in Other Controls I can tick boxes for 1 Alternate Microphone and 2 Microphone Boost but to no effect.
Sounds and Audio Device Properties:
>sounds tab: all set to default
>Volume: Device volume set high and not muted, Speaker settings set to Desktop stereo; performance Full
>Audio: Sound playback NVIDIA(R)nForce(TM)Audio, Sound recording NVIDIA(R)nForce(TM)Audio, Midi playback MS GS Wavetable SW Synth
>Voice: Voice playback NVIDIA(R)nForce(TM)Audio, Voice recording NVIDIA(R)nForce(TM)Audio
The Test Hardware wizard says it cant hear any input from the Mic
so the soundcard is an onboard nForce2 SoundStorm chip on a DFI LanParty NFII Ultra B mobo utilising an AMD Barton 2.8Ghz CPU
drivers look pretty ancient but the mic worked fine a couple of months ago when using Skype
Any pointers much appreciated!
