Mic not working

I cant seem to get my mic working and have no ideas how to fix it Bit of a noob when it comes to fixing computers, so what would the best way to try and establish where its going wrong.. I know the mic does work as it works in my gf's laptop.

Im running vista x64 if that makes any difference
