Mic Problems using Mixamp With HyperX Cloud Headset

So I recently bought myself a new headset and to go with it I decided to purchase a Astro Mixamp 2011 model (as I heard these are the best to get).

Having plugged everything in (I'm using a USB and an Optical cable), my mates on TeamSpeak said I sounded terrible and that my Mic was awful quality. They said that when I was speaking the volume was very erratic, it'd be fine one second and then suddenly go quite and then very loud, and would do this constantly without me touching anything at all.

The way I've got it setup is so the default Audio comes through the optical cable and the TeamSpeak audio comes through the USB. The mic signal also comes though the USB. Having is setup like this means I can still use the game/voice balance dial to adjust which channel I'd like to hear more of.

I've tried what I think to be pretty much all ways to improve the mic quality, changing cables, using the stereo cables for the audio rather than the USB etc, plugging them into the front audio ports on my case, as well as spending a huge amount of time in various menu's trying to resolve the issue my friends were reporting.

After spending ages unplugging and re-plugging everything back in multiple times and virtually giving up on the whole headset, I gave it one more try to attempt to resolve the problem. I managed to get it to a point where my friends said I sounded great, very clear and the perfect volume, (by this time I'd tried so many different combinations of things I'd forgotten what I'd changed), anyway, they said the sound was great so I left everything as it was.

However that only lasted about 5 minutes as I accidently touched the microphone and when I repositioned it, my friends instantly asked me what I'd just done, as the sound had gone back to what it was like in the first place - terrible

This has led me to believe that there is either a problem the microphone itself or a problem with the headset. This is a real shame as the Audio quality of the headset is brilliant, it's only the problem with the mic that's letting me down. So I decided to contact overclockers about getting a replacement headset under RMA.

However, I didn't give up. Instead of just leaving it at that, while I was waiting for a reply from ocuk. I decided to try and rule out the Mixamp altogether and plugged the headset directly into the back of my PC. After some adjustment my friends said I sounded crisp and clear, with no audio breakup or anything. That was lastnight, and the whole evening I was chatting to them and none of them reported any breakup or bad audio quality coming from my mic, so now I'm thinking it must be a problem with my Mixamp . . .

Can anyone shed any light on this or does anyone have any advice for me on how I can fix this mic related problem...
Any help would be greatly received. :D

I think it might worth you to try the HyperX Cloud with just the onboard audio or soundcard if you have one and try something simple like a Skype or Voip call so see if you get the same problem. If you don't, then it's probably be issue with the Mixamp or with the combination of the Mixamp and the HyperX Cloud.

Yeah I thought about trying that before I went ahead with the RMA for my headset. I decided to try and rule out the Mixamp altogether and plugged the headset directly into the back of my PC (into the onboard audio jacks).
