Just curious here, (and i must be bored to be posting this) I have two mice same brand hooked up here, one an older infared type with the red light underneath, and the other a newer LaserStream technology, which is newer and which you'd expect to be better, right ?

Well its not !!!!

The infared is smoother.. Just wiping it across the screen, you get that little bit extra micro stutter on the laserStream as apose to the infared, which is a smoother experience.. Both are standard optical Dell USB mice.

Anyone else seen the same thing?

Its always been that way... in most cases laser is nothing more than a gimmick - all the highly regarded gaming mice are infrared.

could be the mouse surface you're using, some laser sensors don't track so well on certain surfaces/ mouse mats.

Well since I have the convenience of both still sitting here right in front of me. I just put this to the test on various surfaces.. And infared all the way !!!

My Razer Death Adder uses Infra-red but its also got micro stutter but thats probably because im running it at 3500DPI. This is on a Razer Goliathus Frag control mat as well.

All Mice have micro stutter to a certain degree.

I personally hate any form of microstutter. Wireless mice to me are a NO GO because of it.. I use to love it on CRT's getting your mouse ro run at 60hz, it was perfectly smooth. I even had to get use to mice on LCD's, for having a slight trail/ghosting as compared to CRT's.. Each to their own i guess.
