Hi,

Can anyone point me in the direction of a mouse that doesn't make a clicking noise when you press the buttones please? The other/better half goes into an utter frenzy after about two clicks and I have to turn the comp off or risk serious injury/nagging.

Please help this is driving me mad.

Cheers

:D :D

The clicking noise is made because of the type of button used on the internal circuitry of the mouse. maybe if you were to somehow just slip a small piece of foam/sponge or something under the button it would silence the mouse enough. could involve disassembling it first though. might be worth investing a quid in a mouse at a car boot or a pound shop just to try it out first or using a spare (if you have one).

You could get either a standalone touchpad or a keyboard with built in touchpad, most will let you click by tapping on the pad. I don't think this counts as a competitor because they are a manufacturer but Crystal Visions for example have the sort of thing you could use. Having said that using a trackpad for a long period of time gets on my nerves.

nb: I also make no guarantees that your other half won't be driven mad by the tapping of fingers on a touchpad as they sound a shade sensitive :)

The Apple Mighty Mouse looks good but £35 for a mouse gives me sweaty palms...

Might deaden the clicking sounds at least ;)

I think as a general rule the more expensive a mouse is the better quality the microswitches are that are used so hopefully should be quieter.

You want a mouse that you can use in the air?

http://www.gyration.com/en-US

With this mouse you can control the pointer by holding the mouse in the air. This is a very odd request but I think this is the only mouse of its type.

That mouse still makes a clicking noise when you press the mouse buttons, the only way it differs from a normal mouse is that you wave it in the air to move the pointer. And having used one they are a pain in the rear, and should only ever be recommended if there is no available surface to use a conventional mouse (in fact using a normal wireless mouse on your leg is easier that the Gyration mouse)

edit: could you not just relocate the computer/her (depending on which is more important to you) to solve the problem

There is some software that you can get that imitates a click (or double) if you hold it in a position. It is meant for RSI sufferes but can work here silently. ;)

My MX518 is an expensive mouse and makes a louder click than the Dell one my friend donated to me. (Not really very helpful though.)

I can set the sensitivity buttons as double click on it which are silent.

I say be more of a man about it. If she doesn't like it and wants some peace, tell her to walk to the off-licence and get you some beers. Everyone's happy. :)

I don't know of a mouse that doesn't click as they're digital switches so I don't think you have a choice. Tell her to get used to it.

The keyboard's actually quieter than the mouse so that's not a problem, also live in one bed flat so there's not much choice where I put it.

Will probably have a go at modifying a mouse but am really not hopefull that this will give me anything other than a broken mouse.

Perhaps I can will the mouse around the screen using telekinesis.

You could always use mousekeys (accessability in Control Panel).

Point with the mouse, and use a key on the keyboard as click?
