Genuinely gutted by this. Omar was one of my all time favourite characters of my all time favourite TV series. Supposedly found dead in his flat.

Absolutely awful news, one of my top 15 actors. Fantastic in The Wire of course and Boardwalk Empire, stand-up guy by all accounts too.

I'm not a huge Boardwalk Empire fan (though I did watch them all) but any episode of The Wire with Omar in it was a delight, and if I'm feeling a bit nervous at night in an area I'm not sure of I have been known to whistle a bit, trying to embrace my inner Omar.

I could picture him in boardwalk empire, but couldn't remember the name of the show until it was mentioned in the article.

Such a shame at a not-even-old age.
