What's it feel like to die? From director Bong Joon Ho, comes Mickey 17 - only in cinemas January 31, 2025.

From the Academy Award-winning writer/director of “Parasite,” Bong Joon Ho, comes his next groundbreaking cinematic experience, “Mickey 17.” The unlikely hero, Mickey Barnes (Robert Pattinson) has found himself in the extraordinary circumstance of working for an employer who demands the ultimate commitment to the job… to die, for a living.

Written and directed by Bong Joon Ho, “Mickey 17” stars Robert Pattinson (“The Batman,” “Tenet”), Naomi Ackie (“Star Wars: Episode IX – The Rise of Skywalker”), Steven Yeun (“Nope”), with Academy Award nominees Toni Collette (“Hereditary”), and Mark Ruffalo (“Poor Things”).

This is one of the few films I'm looking forward to this year, Pattinson has been great in a lot of the things he's done recently.

I’m shocked.

We went and seen this last night. It was bloody boring, we actually ended up walking out. It was about an hour in and I kept looking at my watch. Got asked how longs left said it’s 137 minutes so at least an hour. A couple of minutes later we agreed to leave.

I’ve sat and watched some amount of junk over the years as well.

Just out of the cinema and all I can say is this movie is excellent Thoroughly enjoyed it and one of the movie of the year for me, so far. Here is my non spoiler review.

Appreciate the review, and we seem to have similar taste so I'm good to go with this one.

I enjoy slow burner stories tbh, at least as long as they're well done, and this is coming from someone that enjoys popcorn stuff. I'll literally day one anything Godzilla related. Too many TikTok/MCU style movies out there though with very little balance in the blockbuster scene, I'm legitimately happy to see that trend slowly shifting.

Ah I missed this had its own thread - here’s my review from ‘what film did you watch last night?’

I think some people will love it or really hate it. For me, I appreciate it but that’s probably more for it being ‘odd / unusual’ than for being ‘good’.

Micky 17 (at the cinema)

A person signs up to a space mission where he keeps being brought back to life (or ‘re-printed’) when he dies.

God, this was weird.

It’s advertised as being a light black comedy sci-fi, but it’s far less ‘conventional comedy’ than I expected… almost ‘dry’ at times. I’d say it’s more bemusing than outright funny… but I was chuckling at the silliness now and again.

Some characters were good and had personality. Others were a little too satirical. In particular, having an ‘all-powerful, ego-maniac idiot leader’ is rather on-the-nose right now :o

Lots of scenes lingered in bizarre and irrelevant ways, which together with the offbeat humour gave it a strange tone. The ending was a little strange as well and I imagined a lot of people just thought “what the heck was that.”

Points for being a bit different though.

7/10

I've got tickets for Thursday but I'm very ill right now so might have to give em away.

I thoroughly enjoyed it. To me the humour was on point, and as @Nitefly stated the "all-powerful, ego-maniacal idiot leader’ is a memorable character.

Interesting theory on the multiple personalities too.
