I'm building a gaming PC for the first time and am split between mATX and midi. I've only had a laptop for very long time and the tower PC just seems so big.
Basics are quite similar between two builds.
CPU: I7 quad core Devil Canyon (OC'd to stage 2 in midi tower)
GPU: GeForce 780
RAM: HyperX 8GB
Cooler: Corsair Hydro 80i
HDD: 1 x Samsung Evo 120GB SSD , 1 x Seagate 1TB (or 2TB) HDD
PSU: 650W for mATX, 750W for midi
MoBo: Asus Z97-M Plus for mATX, Asus Z97-A for midi
Some sort of wireless network card
Case: BitFenix Phenom for mATX, Zalman Z3-Plus for midi
I'm very new to all this and my guess is I won't be looking to upgrade anytime soon. When the time does come around, I'm not even sure if I will be braving changing parts myself or just end up changing the whole thing.
Size and availability of OC are the two points that I cannot seem to decide on.
I know exactly where I can put mATX in whereas midi tower, I'm going to have to figure something out due to its size. I've read that essentially, you aren't exactly losing out with mATX function wise, but cooling can be an issue. My current non-gaming PC is I5 3340S 2.80GHz and I'm struggling with my gameplay even on low setting. (Graphic card sucks too but I've been told the game is quite CPU dependent due to source engine it runs on... or something like that).
I guess my questions boil down to these;
1)I am not bothered about spending extra 150 but seeing how bulky it is, would the availability of OC and better cooling make the compromise worthwhile? Or would hydro cooler in mATX be good enough and it'd just be battle of size and OC? How much of difference will OC make in real life??
2)In terms of PSU, only 650W is on offer for configuration for mATX. Is that enough to power what I've got listed up there? Can 750W PSU fit in mATX?
These are probably very novice questions but then I am a novice. Thanks in advance for help.
