OK, So i've given up trying to get this 939a8x-m board working with my agp bfg 7800 gs oc and x2 4800+... Pfffft. (well working as in acting like a something that should shift)

So, time to bin the board and transfer the gpu back to my sn45. So..

What is the best (value for money) matx board? Overclocking requirement not really a necessity but more of a nice have.

I just want a board which will happily bob along with my cpu (x2 4800+), mem (2GB DDR400) and very probably a bfg 7900 as my gpu.

Cheers, Paul.

DFI RS482 Infinity - might have problems getting hold of one in the UK though.
The Asus A8N-VM CSM is a good solid board, as is the Foxconn 6150K8MA-8EKRS. The Biostar TForce 6100 is a very good overclocker, but lacks some of the features of the Asus, Foxconn and DFI:)

I think I'm sold on the Asus. Now to order and hope that the rest of my kit is good and it really is down to a dodgy mb (the 939a8x).

Cheers, Paul.

morphed into pcie - molex / PSU / GPU palarva

Holy Moly, it really does not go smoothly. so....

If I go with the Asus mobo, I have some issues. I currently only have a Seasonic S12 430 which does not come with any pcie 6pin power connectors.

Now.... I'm guessing most 7900GT cards need 2, which give me something of a bind.

1. I have heard some cards (gpu pcie) work happily woth one connection, if so, which ones?

2. Using my current PSU (which I'm loathe to change since I bought it for my now defective AGP solution) whats the crack with the Molex to pcie converters? OCuk supply them but it appears you use 2 molex connector per 6pin connector? (Or am I seeing that wrong?)

Now, if the answer to point 2 is "Yes you need 2 4pin molex connectors to power 1 6pin pcie" I may be in luck, since the S12 comes with quite a few.

But anyways, clarification much appreciated.

Cheers, Paul.

I own that Asus CSM board, and a Seasonic S12 430W. If you need a pcie power connector they're just a couple of quid. You don't need two PCIE for the GFX (unless SLI but then not looking at MATX anyway) Couple of em in my bit box. Also buy zalman 007 blue sink for lower ic, fits ok, as it gets a bit toasty.

Well ok, but to clarify, Looking at the connectors OCuk sell, do they actually require 2 x 4pin molex to power 1 x 6pin pcie connector?

Cheers, Paul.

You just need one of these. Bung it into a spare Molex, other end to the GFX card. Simple enough really.

Akasa PCI Express 6 Pin to 4 Pin Power cable adaptor for PCI-E Graphics Cards (CB-018-AK)

Although if you've already got a GFX card personally would go for a mobo without built in GFX, only went for it myself for HTPC requirements.
