What do you do if you want backward compatability with phones which do not take a microSIM?

For example - my next phone will likely be a HTC One but I shall retain my Sensation as a backup phone (for example, it'll have my SIM card in it when I go to the US, with the One using a local SIM for navigation. Or I'll use it when my One turns out to have huge gaps in it and it needs to be sent back to HTC :D). However the Sensation takes a conventional SIM card which seems to scupper my plans.

You can get adapters, I have one for Nano Sim and Micro sim, these come from O2 when I upgraded to the Iphone 5.

If you have any spare giffgaff SIMs lying around, use one of those. They issue normal size SIM cards with micro-SIM cut outs. Pop the micro-SIM out and use your own micro-SIM in there when required.

One tip I can offer for those using a micro sim in a mechanism where the adapter and micro sim slide in under a non-moving plate is to place the sim in the holder and cover the contact side of the sim and holder with a strip of sticky tape.

Get a scalpel and cut around the gold contact area and remove the tape within this section. Also cut around the sim adapter, removing the excess tape.

The reason I've done this in the past is to prevent the micro sim dropping out of the adapter where there isn't enough space to grip the adapter to pull it out straight without bending it; the sim drops out and gets caught on the pins.

Most of the time this isn't required but just a tip if needed, especially if moving the sim between phones often :o)
