Hey guys,

Does anyone know of a Micro-USB cable that works well with the Xbox One controller? The current cable I have worked to begin with but seems to be having problems already.

I'm not sure whether it is the cable or the controller but I can always get the controller replaced if you guys think it could be that. I am tempted to get the wired controller for the Xbox One because then it includes the Microsoft Micro-USB cable.

Thanks :)

All xbox one controllers are wireless (when used with the cable the signal and power will be wired).

Both my cables (with play n charge kit I presume) are fine.

Thanks for the responses guys.

I am not using the cable from the play and charge kit as I think the kit is pointless. So I purchased just a Micro-USB cable that was used on the PS4 controller.

However it seems to be having issues now and I don't know if it is something to do with the length, current through the cable or a damaged connection. It must be just because it is a cheap cable as I can't see how there would be much of a difference when compared to the type of cable that comes with the play and charge kit?

Thanks again

Well there is no charging as I want the controller to be wired. The issues are controller disconnects and also a low battery notification.

My guess is the controller is not receiving enough power all the time causing it to completely disconnect at times. Perhaps I just need to buy a decent cable from Microsoft?

Thanks

Sounds like one of a few things: faulty connection on the console, faulty cable or faulty controller.

Any micro-B USB cable should work, theyre all the same no matter the brand, the only difference is quality so you may have a dodgy cable.

There is only one type of XB1 controller, unlike the 360 controller where the wired controller is 'hard wired', the XB1 is basically a wireless controller with a cable, see here:

Have you got batteries in the controller? Im guessing not as you use it wired.

I bought a long cable for my controller as I sit back from the telly on the sofa, I think I bought it from Tesco but I dont remember the make, Belkin maybe?

I would get a new cable as thats the cheapest option, if the problem continues then it may be the controller or console.

Thanks for the detailed response. I have the Stereo Headset Adapter which is this (for those unaware):

That has a Micro-USB cable in the box which is used for updating the controller unfortunately it is to short for regular use. Anyway when I plug that in the controller actually turns on as soon as the USB is connected. With my other cable this doesn't even happen so it probably is the cable.

My worry is that most of the cables I can see on the usual websites are probably pretty similar. Does anyone have any suggestions for a decent quality cable?

Thanks :)

Go with a named brand like Belkin or Lindy etc
You may pay a bit more than the unbranded 99p cables but the quality would hopefully be better.

Just buy the official one :D

The official one would either by the wired Xbox One controller or the Play and Charge kit all of which are a lot more expensive.

However I guess if the better quality cables are closer to the price of the Play and Charge kit I will probably just get that :) I will have a look around.

What is this "wired" Xbox One controller? There is no hard wired official one for the XO is there?

Just get hold of another USB lead and try it, then if needs be, buy a new cheap one. I've used several random el-cheapo ones that came with other stuff with mine and all have been fine.

There is a controller that is marketed towards the PC market. It is referred to as the Xbox One Wired PC Controller. Essentially it just comes with a USB cable included.

Thanks again for the help I will take a look at some more USB cables.

Yeah, to be honest I think you are making this more complicated than is necessary ;)

Just get a new cheap USB and go from there. If you still have issues then it could be another fault as said above, either with the pad or the USB port on the console (try another).
