Hi there,

I was wondering if I could have some help with specing a M-ATX pc for my girlfriends father.

I haven't built a M-ATX PC before so I'm a little unsure of what to buy / spec up. The budget is £500 max and if possible include a nas drive with storage into the build.

The PC will be used for:
  • Playing video
  • Playing music
  • Browsing the web
  • Word documentation
  • Gaming is a possible but nothing hi-end

Technical requirements:
  • At least 8gb ram
  • Solid state drive
  • Silent build
  • Good sound

The case I have been looking at is http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CA-141-BX and I have been looking at both Intel and AMD builds either doesnt really matter and toying with the idea of an APU build. Any suggestion on which would be greatly appreciated.

If possible include a NAS drive with storage into the build. I'm looking to order this today.

Thank you :)

I think that something like this should be good. You could put a aftermarket cooler on the CPU later if the the fan is noisy. If you want to overclock in the future then the CPU should be good.

Thank you for the quick reply

I forgot to mention OS, he has windows 7 at present and we will use that for the build, he is not a fan of windows 8

Thanks for the suggestions guys, I have spoken to my girlfriends father and he is happy to spend a little more say £550. I changed a few parts on CEUOTC second build.

Would this work or would the PSU need to be bumped up?

Thanks Danny,

Just updated the shopping cart, I'll give it a few more minutes for more suggestions then will place the order. I'm trying to make the the build is the best it can be for the budget.

I wouldn't buy that psu for a m-atx build. We have had a few people report back on the 450w version that the fan gets quite noisy. It is just a budget psu built down to a price at the end of the day. Have a look at the Golden green HX350 from Superflower as it's a better built unit.
