Microphone and room noise question

I like to record my gameplay, but I hate wearing a headset. There is just no bass, no shockwaves, the caged feeling of having your head in a torture device etc.

If I use the microphone of the headset and my speakers, it records things like radio messages once from the speakers and then from ingame sound, which produces some echo effect. This is usually not much, but in some games like ARMA: Cold War Assault, there is a 0.5-1sec gap between the speakers and the ingame sound recording.
It works fine if I play the sound through the headset, but then I have less fun playing a game.

Can standalone microphones filter background noise to a degree?

That Review sounds perfect, about it not being onmidirectional:

p.s. and no £100+ for a microphone :)

Non omnidirectional mics have different sensitivity for sounds from different directions so they make sounds coming from other directions less loud.
Though even if speakers themselves are on sides/outside of pick up pattern sound reflecting from wall behind you isn't.

Have you muted everything else than mic in sound card's recording settings.
Because that sounds like sound card is also taking "What U Hear" to its input.

And what are you using if you can't keep headphones for whole day?

Hmm, if I turn on listen to this device, it is about the effect I notice, me saying something and 0.5sec I hear my voice again. The radio messages are really loud and may be the only real noticeable thing.
But I can also hear myself typing if this is turned on.

I'll try again now, after I disabled for applications to allow control over the device.*

p.s. it is a logitech wireless headset. Not too heavy, but I just don't like wearing headphones :)

*still the same echo effect for ingame radio messages.
