Microphone Frequency response: 20 - 20,000 Hz

The 20-20kHz rating means nothing as there are no standards to which they work to. If you have a 60dB sound source (loud talking) and their monitoring equipment measures 10dB (light wind/breathing) at 20Hz some manufacturers will claim yes our microphone can pick up 20Hz whilst others will maybe say no. What you need to be able to see if a frequency response chart to see how sensitive the microphone is over the spectrum. Then again, a flat response across the whole spectrum isn't always necessarily desired, especially when you're not going to be mixing down the source after recording, do you really want to be picking up 20Hz thuds and knocks from your microphone jostling and 20kHz hisses when you are most likely using this microphone for voice? Can't help you further with headset microphone recommendations but the frequency response range is a red herring stat.

big_ape is exactly right.

If I was in the market for a headset I wouldn't get one of the "gaming" ones. From a quick scroll down the list, the cheapest OcUK offering I'd consider is the Beyerdynamic MMX 2 Headset. Good manufacturer and sensible price. Also look at the Sennheiser offerings.

Surely if one needs a microphone to pick up 20-20k, then a proper microphone is the way to go. I'd certainly not rely on a gaming headset to give me that, if it was required.
