Microphone issue, motherboard?

Hi,

Ive been using Razer Kraken USB headset for a year now but my dog ripped them off the side and snapped earpiece off, has been taped up for a while but bit the bullet and got myself some Hyper X Cloud's, sound difference is AMAZING.. Much better than the Razer, only issue having is..

Im assuming something on my motherboard is dead? Its picking microphone up as in detected but doesn't detect any sound going into it? I plugged it into my iPhone and its working that way.

Tried updating Realtek drivers, still no joy, im assuming somethings wrong with board?

What's easiest solution? Buy a soundcard and will work?

Thanks,

Liam.

a cheap usb soundcard like Asus U3 would fix it but have you checked the levels and boost are set and is it set to default?

Headset is set as default, checked all levels, and made sure it's not muted. will I not loose sound quality using a USB stick? Also if I do buy a sound card will it still not work?

Unless you have no space for an internal card, I'd go for a DGX over U3. U3 is best for a cheap laptop option.

No reason why it shouldn't work, as it's not connected with the onboard audio. Different hardware and drivers.

Yeah I have a few slots spare, I'll give a sound card ago.
