Microphone noise

Our one downstairs does that, it sometimes works if you flick it :D . Either way, its an unrepairable hardware fault so you'll need a new one :( . How old is it BTW, by nature they fail after 7-14 years or so but I don't know why they do this buzzing, possibly poor quality solder joints (gone dull and flakey now).

actually, it's only 8 months old. :(

Isn't there anything I can do?

Hmm, thats odd. Do you speak very close to it? It's possible its moisture damage if so (they won't like the moisture from your breath). Has anything heavy been on the cable or it been twisted sharply? They are thin and can break/short internally quite readily. Otherwise its probably the solder gone dry, which is very poor after 8 months (still under any warranty?). Check the connection to the PC just in case too :)

Well, sometimes, I actually run over the cable with my chair, and it can get stuck in the wheel without me noticing it. could that be the cause?

Can't say much else. It could be from running over the cable but either way the only real course of action is to buy a new one :(
