Microphone problems...K8VSE Asus MB

I thought I had a broken microphone on my headset as it has not been working for a while but I got a new head set and that does not work either.

Does anyone know if there is something on the MB that I need plugging in?

Microphone is usually muted by default, check sound options.

Is the correct recording device set?.....

Is the option greyed out, or is it correctly setup and just not working?

You sure its not working, how are you testing?....

You won't here yourself unless you turn microphone playback on.

I have been trying to run the test microphone function on windows. Where is the turn microphone play back on?

Control Panel > Sounds and Audio Devices > Advanced

You should then have the playback controls up, if Microphone isnt already listed click Options > Properties and check it.

I assumed this was where you were setting up the mic before. All volumes are for playback, you can set it to recording volumes via the options.

Yeah that section was turned up.

Do you think I might have unplugged the mic on the MB somewhere as I did take it apart to install a new graphics card a few months back?

try the port on the back if your using a front one

I was using the back one. I think I may have the problem now.

When I go into voice recording in Sounds and Audio devices the advanced section is faded out.

Which to me would suggest something not plugged in or installed.

Any advice on where a mic connection would be found on my MB? (Asus K8vse)
