Hey guys, I've had a couple of headsets with microphones now, and neither of them have been fantastic. I know that a build in mic is generally not going to be as good as a desktop microphone. However, with the two headset ones I've tried there's been problems. With the microphone level set to 100, my voice is too quiet, despire the fact that the mic is right in front of my mouth. But with the '+20dB boost' option there's too much background hiss. But using the desktop mic with the +20dB boost (the only way I can get it to pick my voice up loudly enough) is fine.
I guess its just a case of headset mics being rubbish? Though why do I always need the boost option on? Its not as if the microphones are ever far away from me, and I'm using an X-fi Xtreme Gamer, so its not on-board sound being rubbish either.
