microphone + windows7

yo guys,

in windows xp i used to be able to turn my mic off in windows so i did not get any playback when on desktop. but yet still use it in vent/ts and games etc. does any 1 know how i do this in windows 7 its driving me crazy!!

In the sound card software, there should be an option to turn on/off 'monitoring' on the microphone settings. it should be set to off.

Assuming its your X-fi card, I'm not sure if the option will be called monitoring as well, maybe something different
