I gave one of the 12" Macbooks and pretty much the only real key driver for me keeping it is for transferring photos & videos (7D Mk2, couple of GoPros) from those MicroSDCards to a hard disk for storage. Yer, I know.

Perhaps also use it for the odd meeting, but nothing that I couldn't use my iPad for.

Now, here's the question - does anyone know a way of doing this actually just using an iPad? I.e. Straight from MicroSD to a hard disk? It would reduce the stuff I carry when travelling.

I've tried using the Macbook for stuff like movies & iBooks, but it's just not the same. I end up taking the Macbook *and* the iPad Air 2...which strikes me as a bit pointless.

I've got a 128Gb version of one of these.... But it doesn't seem to help really. Was thinking a 256Gb iPad 9.7" pro but even that is only a couple of days GoPro unedited stuff.

Meh.

Thinking that the Macbook + iPad Air2 + external HD is actually the best I can do.

Any opinions please?

I have an Apple SD card reader, with that I can read a uSD card (from my dashcam) mounted in a full size SD card adaptor on either my iP6S or my iPad Air. The files are then imported into iPhoto and can be uploaded to iCloud/Dropbox etc. Saving them anywhere else is a challenge!

The Apple SD adaptor spec says it only supports SDHC, but I find it reads my Kingston SDXC cards (Fat32 format admittedly) without any problem.
